FAQ
Q. What are Vental blinds designed to do?
A. Vental external venetian blinds are designed to reduce the amount of solar heat entering a building through glazed windows and doors. As a result of this, there is normally a more uniform temperature gradient within the room and air-conditioning requirement can often be reduced or eliminated.
Q. Where are Vental blinds made?
A. All of the Vental blind models are manufactured right here in Australia at our Sydney factory. Because we control all aspects of our manufacturing process, we can offer fast delivery times and prompt responses to your needs.
Q. What are Vental blinds made from?
A. All of the Vental blind models major components are manufactured from aluminium. Almost all other components are made from UV stabilised nylon or stainless steel.
Q. Why are many of your standard components black?
A. Many of our standard components (lift tapes, ladder cords and slat inserts) are offered in black as standard. This is mostly because black components are less noticeable when viewing the outside world from inside. An example of this can be seen in the use of black fencing on tennis courts. Also, most black components are generally more UV stable than other colours.
Q. Can Vental blinds be fitted on my balcony or deck?
A. They are not designed for use without a backing, like windows and sliding doors, and are not fit for this purpose. All of the Vental blind models are designed to be fitted directly in front of glazing. If you do choose to fit them away from the glass, they must be retracted whenever wind poses a risk of damage.
Q. Are Vental blinds rated as a fire screen or balustrade?
A. Unfortunately, Vental blinds are designed to provide sun shading only and cannot be used as a safety device or protect your property from fire or ember attack.
Q. Do Vental blinds offer total 'black-out' to my room?
A. All models of Vental blind offer varying degrees of 'dim-out' but do not offer total 'black-out'. The amount of 'dim-out' is related to the colour of the slats you have chosen. Darker coloured slats reflecting less light and so offering more 'dim-out' than lighter coloured slats.
Q. Can I have Vental blinds in a custom colour?
A. Each of the Vental blind models is available in a range of standard slat colours that are always in stock and available for immediate delivery. Custom colours are possible but will add approximately 6 months to the delivery time and will add around $15,000 to your order.
Q. What factory delivery time can i expect?
A. Because Vental manufactures our entire external venetian blind range right here in our Sydney factory, we can make your blinds quickly. Our normal factory turn around is three to four (3-4) working weeks. Where ‘optional extra powder coat finish’ is selected, delivery times will increase by one to two (1-2) working weeks. Delivery times may change subject to factory workload. Confirmation on current schedules should be sought at the time you confirm your order.
Q. Can Vental blinds Be used as a security screen?
A. Whilst they look secure, Vental blinds are not designed for this use and are not fit for this purpose. To access windows or doors behind the Vental blind, a would-be thief would simply lift the blind bottom rail and wedge it so it does not come back down. Another option would be to use scissors or a knife to cut the lift tapes and ladder cords so that the blind falls in a heap to the bottom of the guides.
Q. Are Vental Blinds Available in manual crank operation?
A. All Vental blinds are operated by German made electric venetian blind motors. As electric motors are the most popular operation method, and no more expensive than manual cranks, we do not offer a manual crank operated option.
Q. What are the electrical requirement for Vental blinds?
A. The motors we use in our blinds are made in Germany and operated on 230 volts AC single phase power. Wiring to the motor needs to be in 4 x 0.75mm2 (A, A, N, E) flex or circular cable so that adequate waterproofing is provided to the Hirschmann STAK 3 connector supplied with blind motor. Motor must never be wired in parallel. See our standard wiring information for details.
Q. Can vental blinds be operated by wireless remotes or smart home systems?
A. Yes. As the motors used in Vental blinds are not tied to any proprietary system, you are able to use a great many wireless remote or home automation systems to operate your Vental blinds. Simply have your home automation supplier contact us for details on switching requirements.
Q. Are there any recommendations you have when using Vental blinds on Hi-Rise buildings?
A. For windows on upper floors of tall buildings, it is recommended to design narrower, inward opening, recessed windows. This will allow blind slats are shorter in span and well protected at the ends so they will withstand stronger winds. Narrower blinds are also easier to transport into buildings using lifts and stairs. It is also easier to maintain or repair the blinds if inward opening windows are fitted to the building, as this will avoid the need to hire external access and hoisting equipment.
Q. Can Vental blinds be used on sloping windows?
A. No. Vental blinds must only be fitted plumb vertical.
